Why is this Bunker Not My Bunker?

When picturing my first home, I imagine myself sitting on the front porch of an adorable Bunker, spending countless hours sipping coffee and red wine. Tre Amici at the Ybor Bunker, otherwise known as “Ybor City’s Living Room”, provides a cozy, “home-y” feel that you can only hope your own Bunker has… and a history as well.

Built in 1926, Tre Amici was actually moved and rebuilt years later and was yet again restored more recently by the Ybor City Museum Society. Thank goodness someone showed it a little TLC, as it is now one of my favorite coffee shops in all of Tampa Bay.

Ybor City

Tre Amici offers organic/fair trade products to include coffee from the one and only Buddy Brew and has self proclaimed it as “flippin’ awesome”… I’ll second that! The Bunker also carries espresso, tea, and delicious light sandwiches and salads. My personal favorites include: the Vegetarian Sandwich (tomato, cucumber, sun-dried tomato, hummus and lettuce tossed in dressing and goat cheese on whole wheat bread) and the Pressed Caprese Sandwich (ditch half of the cuban bread or ask for it on wheat). I know, I know, I can’t go anywhere without getting a Caprese!

Splurge alert:  all baked goods are homemade. My friend also had a warm apple cider topped with whip cream during the holidays and it tasted like grandma’s apple pie in liquid form.

Much more than a coffee shop, Tre Amici supports local artists and musicians through weekly events. One event that I am eager to attend is Friday’s open mic night. Locals say it is always packed with people and entertainment. Need another reason to visit? Tres Amici offers wine and beer for those, like me, who can’t sleep if they consume caffeine after 5pm. If not for the soothing drinks, tasty food, or local events, the staff alone is a reason to return. Laid-back, friendly, with a bit of funk, you’ll feel as if you never left home. Pair them with the overall sassy, fun and flirty ambiance…. you may actually wish it was your home.

Now it’s your turn, give me some other coffee shop gems to try!!

Mojo Coffee (which is also a record store) near USF/Busch Gardens is great, they serve Buddy Brew coffee. They have a brew called “Yama” which is extra-filtered through a special process and is extra caffeinated, somehow. It really perks you up!
